Recycling is Good for Art, too
Remember the Zodiac Babies? They were images I created while Finley (then a baby himself) was napping. Well now they are getting a new life as greeting cards on CardGnome.com. CardGnome is a company that creates high quality greetings utilizing wind-powered, recycled paper and organic inks, so not only are the images recycled, the cards are, too!

Something Cold, Something New
Thought I ought to post something. It’s been a while. I took a trip to SLC with my son, and managed to catch a nasty bug while we were there.
Has air ever come out of your eye duct when you blew your nose? This is a new one for me. And when I close my eyes, it makes my eyelid flutter. Very bizarre.
Lately my creative endeavors have been mostly experimenting with egg-free, wheat-free cooking. So far I’ve discovered that I hate garbanzo bean flour. Yuck! Might be good for humus, but not so great in a cupcake! The trick is to create foods that my husband or I will still eat, even if my picky allergic son won’t. I made a granola bar yesterday that was awesome. Would Fin try it? Of course not. More granola bars for me!
I’ve also been tweaking some of the zodiac babies. I’ve promised shirts to my younger nieces and nephews, so I’m updating the colors (see the Leo in pink for Teagan), and personalizing the hair and eyes.
Only a few more months until Max arrives! I’ve got quite the list of things to accomplish before then. I’ll keep you posted on the random, creative ones!

Sagittarius
The last of the zodiac babies is finally here! I know you Sag people have been holding your breath.
It feels good to complete the series, although I’m sure I’ll be revisiting a few of these babies – probably just to do some in color-ways specific for boys or girls.
All of the zodiac babies are available through my Zazzle account: www.zazzle.com/karenwindness. I think the onesies would make an especially cute baby shower gift.
Enjoy!

Cancer Baby
At long last, Cancers: Here’s your zodiac baby!
I initially thought the purple and blue colors/patterns might be a little too much, but now that I have it pasted into the post, I like it! Just in case, I made a pink and red version. More feminine but less contrasty. I’m open to opinions/suggestions as always.
My experience of Cancer people is that they can go very deep emotionally. They tend to be moody but also artistic, sensitive and creative. Very connected to the water/ocean and the moon. They sometimes project a hard exterior to protect the soft (and delicious) interior.
I’m actually allergic to crab, so you have nothing to fear from me, Cancers!
Speaking of crabby (ha ha), what’s up with my (nearly) two- old? Can someone please explain the psychology of tantrums and how to start implementing discipline? I’m so lost here! I think he’s just wanting to be a big boy, having frustration with not being able to communicate, and exerting his power in our relationship (and with Dad, too). Knowing this doesn’t change how frustrating it is to deal with the inappropriate behavior.) Help!
(I wonder where I stashed that Love and Logic book… It’s gotta be around here somewhere…)

You name it contest!
Apparently someone “owns” the saying “Like A Virgo”, so my baby Madonna image and products are being pulled from Zazzle. Ah, unintentional copyright infringement. Is there anything clever in the world that isn’t already “owned” by someone else?
In the spirit of making lemons into lemonade, I’d like to propose a contest. Can you rename this baby and/or give it a witty saying? Best entry will receive this image, including their verbiage, either on a magnet or a child’s onesie or t-shirt (winner gets to choose).
I’ll pick the winner in one week. Multiple entries are A-O-K by me.

Virgo – the non-Madonna version
After a little research and help from friends (thank you Hannah!) I came up with this little Virgo baby. My initial concern was that I wanted the baby to be gender neutral, and Virgo is typically viewed as a woman. I even did one version as a baby Madonna and called it “Like a Virgo” (check my older posts to see).
To my relief, I discovered that the sign is also often depicted as an angel. (Most my Virgo friends wink when they describe their sign as being virtuous, by the way.) The wheat was a suggestion from Hannah who said “[How about] something grain/harvest related. That could be gender neutral.Virgo is associated with Demeter, goddess of the harvest.”
The nakedness was my idea… just seemed to work. And who doesn’t love naked baby bottoms? I can’t wait to put my Virgo-to-be baby boy in one of these onesies! Feel free to check out my Zazzle store with this image and many others. Here’s the link: www.zazzle.com/karenwindness

Leo revisited
Something about the earlier Leo drawing didn’t feel like a fit with the Zodiac Babies. It bugged me enough to revisit the image twice.
I’m pretty happy with this version, but if you’d like to compare it with the older one and give me your opinion, I’m all ears!
(By request, here’s a brown baby Leo. I’ll have to address skin color with the other signs, too. Lots of pink faces in this bunch!)
Aries and Pisces
To be honest, I know very little about either of these signs. In fact, I initially spelled both of them wrong: Aires and Pices. This is the kind of thing that happens when my internet is down! I suppose we have a dictionary somewhere, but it’s probably still in a box from the move. Can I do nothing without Google??
If you are an Aries or Pisces or are close to someone who is, I’d love to hear your ideas on the sign characteristics.
Even though these aren’t zodiac signs I know much about, the illustrations are some of my favorite thus far! Let me know what you think! Also, if you want to see them on products you can visit my new Zazzle shop at: www.zazzle.com/karenwindness

For the Leos
I’m surrounded by Leos! My brother is a Leo, my hubby is a Leo and my son, Finley, is a Leo. (Incidentally, Fin was born on 08-08-08. Cool, eh?)
From my experience Leos are very gregarious. They like to be at the center of the party and are often performing. My son is always the best dancer at any event… and he’s only 21 months old! My hubby is a juggler, a singer, a tap dancer, and a big time talker. It’s great to have another Leo in the house because they entertaining one another. (I wonder how things will be when we throw a Virgo baby into the mix!)
Any way you look at it, Leos are a pretty cool bunch… and they know it! I imagine this little lion is saying “hi-ee!” in that sweet, friendly Finley voice.
If you’d like to give a Leo you love this little guy on a t-shirt, onesie or magnet, please visit my Zazzle store at: www.zazzle.com/karenwindness. There’s a lot of fun non-Leo items there, too.
